Noble Roger Grindle of Hancock was installed as Potentate of Anah Shine at the Ceremonial in Bangor, Maine on January 19, 2019. Noble Roger was born January 20, 1950 in Ellsworth, Maine the son of the late Robert W. and Louise (Ashmore) Grindle. He attended Ellsworth schools and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1968. In 1970 he earned an Associate Degree in Business Management from Beal College in Bangor, Maine. Following college, he worked for Acme-Dunham as a sales representative in eastern Maine selling building material and hardware for ten years. Beginning in 1983, Roger was employed by Huttig Building Products selling millwork. He worked for that company for 18 years. He retired in 2016 from Mathews Bothers as Territory Manager for northern, central and eastern Maine. Mathews Brothers is a Maine company selling windows that are manufactured in Belfast, Maine. Roger was involved in the millwork business as a sales representative in northern, central and eastern Maine for 43 years. He garnered various sales awards but values the relationships that he made in the business more than anything else. Civically Roger found himself in the company of many of Hancock, Maine's young men as a Boy Scout leader. He is proud to have had four of these Scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout. He was awarded the District Award of Merit in April 2002 from the Katahdin Area Council of Boy Scouts of America. He also coached several YMCA teams such as little league, soccer and basketball. Roger enjoys outdoor activities with friends and family most especially at his camp on Flanders Pond in Sullivan. Masonically, Roger is a member of David A. Hooper Lodge AF & AM No. 201 of Sullivan, Acadia Royal Arch Chapter No. 31 and Blanquefort Commandery No. 13. He is past president of Ellsworth Masonic Club and is presently a life member and past President of Hancock County Shrine Club. He is also a life member of Bangor-Brewer and Aroostook County Shrine Clubs. Roger was created a Noble of Anah Shrine in June,1983. He immediately joined the Anah Flag Unit and enjoyed parading with them as a bass drummer for six years. In 1989 along with his good friend Past Potentate Ill. Sir, Jesse Thomas, Roger co-founded the Anah Shrine Funsters Unit. He was captain of this cast of parade characters from 1989-1992 and paraded with them as Goofie. Roger was appointed Potentate's Aide in 2001 by Past Potentate Ill. Sir Clyde Reynolds. In 2003 he was appointed to the Director's staff by Past Potentate Ill. Sir Guy Chapman and in 2005 was appointed Director of Housing for Anah by Past Potentate Ill.Sir Fred Lunt, a position he held for four years. In 2007 late Past Potentate Ill. Sir Tyler Dunning appointed him Chief Director. The following year he was appointed Director of Anah Shrine by late Past Potentate Ill. Sir Edward Sprague. In 2010 Roger was appointed Outer Guard by Past Potentate Ill. Sir Charles "Chuck" Kennedy. He is also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court #150. Roger and his wife Julie (Sprague) have been married 45 years. Julie retired in 2013 after many years as an educator. They have two grown children, Shayna and her
husband Noble Michael Nickerson of Hancock and Noble Shawn and his wife Josslyn of Hamden, CT. Shawn and Michael are both Anah Shriners. Shawn was appointed Ambassador by Past Potentate Ill. Sir Jesse Thomas in 2015. Michael is an Anah Shrine Funster. This year Shawn and Michael will serve as Personal Aides. Roger's favorite pastime is Grampie to Lucy Sofya Nickerson, Abigayle Juliana Grindle. and Eleanor Victoria Grindle. Roger would like to especially recognize his Shrine family legacy led by his father-in-law Glendon Sprague a life long Ellsworth resident and Anah Clown Emeritus widely known as "Papa Clown".Noble Roger Grindle of Hancock was installed as Potentate of Anah Shine at the Ceremonial in Bangor, Maine on January 19, 2019.

Roger and Illustrious Sir Jesse Thomas were co-founders of the Anah Funsters Unit in 1989. Our Potentate served as Captain of the Funsters for the first 5 years and during his time in the Unit, Goofie is the character that our Potentate wore. The artwork was designed by the Potentate's daughter, Shayna Nickerson.

The open window that Goofie is looking out represents Shriners OPENING WINDOWS OF HOPE AND HEALING for Shrine kids to live a better life.
